What we tuned for this language
Liaison and elision
Whether the final consonant of les or vingt is voiced depends on the word after it. That decision has to be made from context, which is exactly what a model trained on real French speech does and a phoneme lookup table cannot.
Nasal vowels
The vowels in vin, vent and vont carry meaning, and collapsing them is the single loudest sign of a non-French model. They are distinct in our French training data, so they stay distinct in the output.
Numbers the French way
Seventy through ninety-nine are arithmetic in French, and prices, dates and phone numbers all use them. Our normalizer expands digits into French words before synthesis instead of letting the voice improvise.

Does the model handle liaison correctly?
It is learned from French speech rather than applied as a rule list, so liaisons follow the sentence around them. Names and technical terms that still come out wrong can be pinned in the pronunciation dictionary.
Can French audio stay inside the EU?
